What is fear?
Therefore, based on this definition, we realize that fear is an emotion, whether real or imaginary.
Idea 1
Mr. Sadhguru, a yogi, mystic, and visionary in a YouTube video, explains that fear is a thought that turns into an emotion. When we are afraid, we play horror movies in our minds repeatedly, scaring ourselves with predictions that 99 percent of the time will never come true in reality.
His solution is to change the movie playing in our minds by using imagination to create a more enjoyable film, such as a comedy or romance, for instance.
Idea 2
Elizabeth Gilbert, a journalist and writer, tells us to stop trying to conquer our fear and instead try to be friend with it. She mentions that the only people she has encountered who are afraid of nothing are psychopaths with empty, cold gazes or very young children.
Fear serves to keep us alive because it warns us of danger, protecting us. Its only concern is that it doesn't differentiate between a situation of great danger and just a small moment of stress.
Idea 3
Idea 4
Steven Pressfield, writer and screenwriter, in his book "The War of Art," explains that "The more scared we are of a work or calling, the more sure we can be that we have to do it." He basically says that when we're super scared of doing something or following our gut on some wild idea, it's a big sign that we absolutely need to do it. So, that fear you're feeling about a project or trusting your instincts? According to Pressfield, it might just mean it's a big deal for your soul's growth.
Idea 5
Conclusion
These various perspectives on fear have allowed me to no longer see it as an enemy but rather as a friend. Today, I strive to be attentive to my emotions; when fear or any other emotion arises, I take the time to sit with it, feel it in my body, and listen without getting caught up in a horror movie. With reflection, this allows me to make a decision, take action, or adjust my plans in alignment with myself.
When we confront our fear for a project that is dear to us by taking a courageous step to take action, we step out of our comfort zone. Leaving one's comfort zone is not pleasant, but it allows us to evolve, experience our life, and celebrate a life aligned with our being.
Fear is an emotion, and your emotions serve as your GPS, guiding you in the direction to take. They warn you of danger, enable you to readjust your goals, or make informed decisions. Fear allows you to take stock and verify that you are well-aligned with your true self.
Indeed, these theories about fear make me aware of the power of imagination and the fact that we have the ability to change the movie playing in our minds if we don't like the current one.
I am finally stepping out of my victim mentality to become the editor-in-chief, co-creator of the film of my life.
Creatively,
Clara
